Venice

I represent Venice (also seen as Venus). I was a woman of color enslaved by Henry Lizars, a planter and Assemblyman from Mobile, and his partner, merchant Henry Driscoll. I had a child that was not named in the records. By instrument dated December 17, 1765, Driscoll and Lizars used me as security for a debt to Sir John Lindsay. On April 1, 1768, Henry Lizars sold me and 14 other enslaved people to merchants and plantation owners David Hodge, Charles Strachan, and Daniel Ward to pay his debt.
