This category encompasses people of African descent living in several cultures: British, Spanish, French, and Caribbean. You will notice vast differences in the treatment of people of color – free or enslaved – who lived among the British versus those who lived in Spanish-held or culturally French areas, as well as differences in the terminology used to describe people of mixed race.
