I represent Rachael Knox, daughter of George and Rachael Knox. My father was a sergeant in the 31st Regiment. The 31st was an infantry regiment that joined the garrison at Pensacola in 1765 and stayed – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – until 1772. I was baptized April 15, 1770, probably as an infant. I had an older sister, Elizabeth, baptized on July 24, 1768. It is possible that my mother is the Mrs. Knox enumerated in the Return of Women & Children, 31st Regiment of Foot, Capt. Varlo’s Company, Sept 1768. If that is the case, Elizabeth is the child enumerated with her; I would not have been born yet.
