I represent Richard Humphries, son of Adam and Margaret Humphries of Pensacola. My father served in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot. The 31st was an infantry regiment that joined the garrison at Pensacola in 1765 and stayed – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – until 1772. I was baptized – probably as an infant – on December 16, 1768. It is possible my mother is the Mrs. Humphries enumerated in the Return of Women & Children, 31st Regiment of Foot, Capt. Varlo‘s Company, Sept 1768; if so, I am one of the two unnamed children enumerated with her.
