I represent Alexander Nesbitt. I was a lieutenant in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot, Captain Thomas Varlo‘s company. The 31st was an infantry regiment that arrived in 1765 and – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – remained until 1772. It is likely that the Mrs. Nesbitt listed among the Officers’ Ladies who died during 1765-1767 was my wife; there was a yellow fever epidemic during that time that claimed many. My service in the 31st was long – I was an ensign by 1757. I was commissioned Capt. Lt. in November 1769 and Captain in July 1770.
