George Raincock, Esq.

I represent George Raincock. I was a “soldier citizen” of British West Florida. I was born in Liverpool, and I was married to Anne. Our daughter, Dorothy, died on June 4, 1771 in Pensacola at about ten weeks old of fever and flux (severe dysentery). She had been baptized in April. I engaged in trade with William Godley and David Hodge appearing as business partners. Governor Peter Chester appointed me to the West Florida council in 1771; this council not only advised the governor, but sat as the Upper House in the provincial General Assembly. I later became a justice of the peace. In July 1772, I acquired 1,000 acres on the Amite River in the desirable western portion of the colony. In my petition I stated I had a wife and one child. I started a plantation, but when the American Revolution broke out in 1776, we went back to England.
