I represent Emma. I was a child of color enslaved in the household of Henry and Elizabeth Digby Pilot. I was purchased in Pensacola after their arrival in 1765. I was about 14 years old at the time and learned cooking and washing from a woman enslaved at Elizabeth’s friend’s house. I went with the Pilots when Henry was ordered to St. Augustine for a few months in January 1769, but when they left West Florida for good in December 1770, Elizabeth sold me back to the person she had purchased her from as she wanted me to remain with “the lot of Negros, to which [I] had belonged.”
