I represent Chovilla. I was a child of colorenslaved by Richard Ellis, a plantation owner on the Mississippi who, in his 1776 petition for a large grant of land, claimed to have had a wife, seven children, and 81 enslaved people in his household. In an instrument dated September 21, 1778, he used me as collateral on a short-term loan from John McGillivray.
