Charlot, Jr.

I represent Charlot Jr. I was a man of color enslaved by Pierre Rochon Jr. of Mobile. (I was probably recorded as “Charlot Jr.” to differentiate me from another, older enslaved man named Charlot. It does not guarantee a father-son relationship, though that may have been the case.) The Rochons were an old, wealthy family who were planters, shipbuilders, and carpenters, and owned real estate in Pensacola. On January 7, 1772, he sold me and 13 other enslaved people to Elizabeth Benoist, his stepmother and widow of Pierre Rochon Sr.
