Baptiste

I represent Baptiste. I was a man of color enslaved by Pierre Rochon Jr. of Mobile. The Rochons were an old, wealthy family who were planters, shipbuilders, and carpenters, and owned real estate in Pensacola. On January 7, 1772, he sold me and 13 other enslaved people to Elizabeth Benoist, his stepmother and widow of Pierre Rochon Sr. An enslaved man of color named Baptiste was used by Pierre Rochon as security on a debt to John Miller & Peter Swanson via instrument dated January 21, 1772. That debt remained unpaid, and that Baptiste was surrendered to Miller & Swanson on August 5, 1773. We are likely to be the same person.
