I represent Aaron. I was a man of color enslaved by Thomas James. By instrument dated November 19, 1778, he used me as security on a debt to Messrs. Morgan & Mather. That debt very likely had to do with a purchase of 400 acres of land; he filed a petition on November 13, 1778 to add to his already significant holdings on the Mississippi River, which included a grist mill.
