I represent Jane Miller, the daughter of James and Isabella Miller. My father served in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot, an infantry regiment that arrived in 1765 and – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – remained until 1772. My mother was enumerated as “Mrs. Miller” in the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, September 1768. As I was baptized – probably as an infant – on February 16, 1769, the unnamed child enumerated with her might be me, but it might also be an older sibling.
