I represent Neptune. I was a man of color enslaved by Robert Bradley of Pensacola. I was called a “new negro,” meaning one recently brought from Africa. I and three other enslaved people sought freedom from Bradley. We spoke no English at the time. While there is some uncertainty, it is likely that four Black men picked up a year later in the Creek nation was us. We spoke the Creek language, and we told our captors we had come from Pensacola and our master was “a man with a big belly.”
