Juba

I represent Juba. I was a man of color enslaved by Stephen Watts and Samuel Flowers on their plantation in British West Florida. Stephen Watts had arrived from Pennsylvania in 1774 with his wife, four children, and 64 enslaved people. His business partner, Dr. Samuel Flowers, had come from Philadelphia seeking asylum as a Loyalist refugee. By instrument dated November 28, 1775, they used me and 43 other enslaved people as collateral on a loan from David Williams, another landowner on the Mississippi.
