I represent David Ross. I was a resident of Pensacola during the early days of the British province of West Florida; I moved out into the western part of the colony later on. I was a merchant and plantation owner who had residences in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. I had two children, and my brother was Robert Ross. In 1768 I was elected to the House of Commons for the 3rd provincial General Assembly to represent both Mobile and Pensacola. I chose to sit for the latter and the former seat had to be filled by writ of election. This caused all manner of conflict between the Assembly and the Lt. Governor Montfort Browne. In 1769, I was elected to represent Campbelltown.
