I represent the child of Mrs. McTaggott, enumerated with her in the Return of Women & Children, 31st Regiment of Foot, Capt. Varlo‘s Company, September 1768. The 31st was an infantry regiment that joined the garrison at Pensacola in 1765 and stayed – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – until 1772. The name of my father was not given in the Return, but according to the August 1768 muster roll of the 31st, he was Robert McTaggott, a drummer of the Regiment.
