I represent Thomas Farrel. I was stationed in the garrison at Pensacola with His Majesty’s 16th Regiment of Foot, having arrived with the regiment in the spring of 1770. I was married to Mary Farrel. We had a son, Andrew, who died of “teeth” 13 APR 1771, probably in infancy. (In the 18th century, if a child suffered from dehydration, malnutrition, dysentery – or any of the countless ailments infants were prone to in those days – while they were teething, the death was often blamed on the teething rather than the underlying condition.) Andrew probably still lies in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
