Mary Farrel

I represent Mary Farrel. My husband, Thomas, was stationed in the garrison at Pensacola with His Majesty’s 16th Regiment of Foot, having arrived with the regiment in the spring of 1770. We had a son, Andrew, who died of “teeth” on April 13, 1771, probably in infancy. (In the 18th century, if a child suffered from dehydration, malnutrition, dysentery – or any of the countless ailments infants were prone to in those days – while they were teething, the death was often blamed on the teething rather than the underlying condition.) Andrew probably still lies in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
