I represent John Barnes, a private in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot, Capt. George Maxwell‘s company. The 31st was an infantry regiment stationed at the garrison of Pensacola. We arrived in 1765 and immediately suffered immense losses due to diseases like yellow fever and dysentery. I died of consumption (tuberculosis) at Pensacola on January 28, 1767, and I probably still lie in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
