I represent Mrs. Lorimer, the wife of Dr. John Lorimer. (Some genealogical records indicate my name was Frances, but that has not been independently verified yet.) I and my husband were intimate friends of George and Ann Gauld. George was a surveyor, cartographer and naturalist, and he and John shared a passion for all things philosophical and scientific. In George’s will, he left us funds for mourning suits and mourning rings. George referred to my kindness in particular, and to a long friendship with John that began in their early years.
