Ann Gauld

I represent Ann Gauld. I was the wife of George Gauld, explorer, surveyor, and cartographer of the Gulf Coast. Not much is known about my identity before my marriage in early 1775; it’s possible I was a widow already in Pensacola at the time. After the surrender of Pensacola, my husband and I went to New York with many of the other survivors of Pensacola, then to London. George died in 1782 and I was left virtually penniless as George’s assets were wiped out during the Revolution. With the help of our friend Dr. John Lorimer, I was able to get her husband’s charts of the Caribbean waters published and have some income from them.
