Mary Smith

I represent Maria Smith. I lived in Pensacola during the British colonial period. William Smith, presumably my husband, and I owned Lot 55 in Pensacola in 1781. This lot was originally granted to Francis Pousset. We do not appear on the Spanish list of householders who remained in Pensacola at the time of the capitualtion, which is curious, though it may be we were among the colonists who evacuated when it was clear the siege would end in defeat. We do appear on the Spanish census of Pensacola in 1784 as Guillermo and Maria Smit, both aged 40 at the time.
