I represent Arturo O’Neill. I was the commander of the Hibernian Regiment, one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for two hundred years by the time of the Revolutionary War, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown. I was born about 1737 and became a cadet in an Irish regiment in 1752. Because of my performance during the siege of Pensacola, I was given the govenorship of Spanish West Florida in 1781, a post I occupied for twelve years.
