In this category are British colonists who have been identified as being from Ireland, as well as members of the Hibernian Regiment. The Hibernian was one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for 200 years by the time of the American Revolution, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown.
