I represent John McCumming, one of the unnamed children enumerated with Mrs. McCumming in the Return of Woman & Children, 31st Regiment of Foot, Maj. Bromley‘s Company, Sept 1768. Though her name was not given in the Return, my mother was Mary Linsday McCumming, and my father was Bryce McCumming, who served in the 31st Regiment and was commissioned Quartermaster in 1772. I was born in 1767 in Pensacola, and I would later marry Charlotte Beaumont of Whitley Hall in Yorkshire. I served in the 31st Regiment myself – in the West Indies, Holland, and Gibraltar.
