Dr. Robert Barrie

I represent Dr. Robert Barrie. I was a Surgeon’s Mate in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot, an office I was appointed to in August 1765. The 31st was an infantry regiment stationed at the garrison of Pensacola. We arrived in 1765 and immediately suffered immense losses due to diseases like yellow fever and dysentery. We were in Pensacola – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – until 1772. I was from Sanquhar, Scotland. In 1772 I married Dorothy Gardner in St. Augustine and our son, Robert was born in 1774. I died in 1775 and my family returned to England. Dorothy remarried, and my son became Admiral Sir Robert Barrie of the Royal Navy.
