Daniel McGillivray

I represent Daniel McGillivray. I was a resident of West Florida during the British period and a member of the ubiquitous and prosperous McGillivray clan. I was the son of Farquhar, and I was a merchant and Indian interpreter. I first appear in the records in 1773 when I was granted 500 acres in West Florida. By 1775 he was already a member of the trading firm of Miller & Swanson of Pensacola. Charles Stuart, the deputy Indian agent, employed me as an interpreter in 1778. After the Revolutionary War, I remained in the Creek Nation where I enjoyed the protection of my relative, Alexander. I later worked for Panton Leslie Co. in Pensacola.
