Capt. Juan Hogan

I represent Juan Hogan. I was a captain in the Hibernian Regiment, one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for two hundred years by the time of the Revolutionary War, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown. I was born in 1756 and was a cadet in the Irish Brigade by 1767. Because of my performance commanding the regiments grenadiers at Pensacola, General Bernardo de Gálvez requested I be promoted to colonel.
