Capt. Francis Hutcheson

I represent Francis Hutcheson (also seen as Hutchinson) I was a Captain in the position of Brigade Major with His Majesty’s 60th (Royal American) Regiment of Foot. I served as Adjutant to Gen. Frederick Haldimand, commander of British forces in the Southern Department. In 1768 I was granted 2000 acres on the West side of the River Escambia, about 2 miles above the high ground called “the Cow Pen.” I sold this parcel to Evan Jones, James Jones, and Joseph Blackwell in March 1769. In 1772 I petitioned for land farther west on the Mississippi, part of my claim as a “reduced” officer – meaning my job had gone away so I was on half pay.
