I represent James Jones. I was a merchant of Pensacola, usually in partnership with my brother, Evan. I sat on the West Florida Council, which acted as the Upper House in the provincial General Assemblies, in 1769, 1770, and 1771. I managed to make an enemy of acting governor Montfort Browne by insisting he actually consult his Council before setting policy. However, I was suspended by Governor Chester in 1778 for having been absent since 1773 and, by the by, taking an oath to Spain in New Orleans. The business was far better there, anyway.
