I represent Eugenio O’Neill. I was a captain in the Hibernian Regiment, one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for two hundred years by the time of the Revolutionary War, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown. I was born in 1726 and joined the regiment in 1744. Because of my performance at the siege of Pensacola, Gen. Gálvez requested a colonelcy for me.
