Benjamin Ward

I represent Benjamin Ward. I was a resident of West Florida during the British period. I served five terms in the House of Commons for the provincial General Assembly, and my tenure illustrates the amount of movement there was in British West Florida. I was elected to represent Pensacola for the first General Assembly in 1766. The next assembly, in 1767, I was elected to represent Mobile. For the fourth General Assembly in 1769 I was elected for Mobile, then for Pensacola in the 5th Assembly in 1771 and the 6th in 1772. I appear in the 1767-1768 ledger books for Pensacola merchants Richard and Caleb Carpenter; I purchased spermaciti candles, soap, and tea.
