I represent Mrs. Foard. I was among the women enumerated in the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, Capt. Hodgson‘s Company, in Sept 1768. It was the practice of the British Army to allow their soldiers to bring wives and children to overseas assignments, usually because we had no other way to support ourselves than to accompany them. At this time, the identity of my husband – if I had one at the time – has not been discovered. According to the Return, I had one child. There was a Samuel Ford in the 31st, married to Katherine, with a child, John. It is possible this is me and my family, but further research is needed to confirm this.
