Maria Gertrudis Commyns

Photo representing Maria Gertrudis Commyns

Represented by Barbara Fitzpatrick

I represent Maria Gertrudis Commyns, a European girl born in Pensacola about 1778. My father was Thomas Commyns (spelled Comyn in the British era), an Englishman who immigrated to Florida in 1769 at the age of 14. My mother was Doña Maria LaFon. While I was born during the British period in Pensacola, I lived most of my life under Spanish rule. I was confirmed at Barrancas in 1798 and married Fernando Moreno in Pensacola in 1800.
