Dinah Bush

I represent Dinah Bush. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I was married to Daniel, and we had two children: John Lewis and Ann Katherine, both of whom were baptized on August 16, 1768. In December of 1765, Daniel was granted Lot 147 on the east side of town, on Bute Street east of Gloucester (now Government Street east of Cevallos – 9th Avenue was swampland back then). He was also granted 400 acres at modern-day Garcon Point (called Indian Point then) on Pensacola Bay. Maps show we had built on it as early as 1766. In 1768 Daniel petitioned for 2,000 acres on the Mississippi River, apparently joining the rush for plantation land in the western part of the colony. We declared 24 family members – of course, that included servants and enslaved people as well as blood relatives.
