Daniel Bush

I represent Daniel Bush. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I was married to Dinah, and we had two children: John Lewis and Ann Katherine, both of whom were baptized on August 16, 1768. In December of 1765, I was granted Lot 147 on the east side of town, on Bute Street east of Gloucester (now Government Street east of Cevallos – 9th Avenue was swampland back then). I was also granted 400 acres at modern-day Garcon Point (called Indian Point then) on Pensacola Bay. Maps show I had built on it as early as 1766. In 1768 I petitioned for 2,000 acres on the Mississippi River, apparently joining the rush for plantation land in the western part of the colony. I declared 24 family members – of course, that included servants and enslaved people as well as blood relatives.
