Elihu Hall Bay

I represent Elihu Hall Bay, a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I was born about 1754 in Maryland and was an attorney by profession. After the death of Alexander McPherson, Governor Chester appointed me as Judge of the Admiralty in 1774, a position I held until the capitulation of the town. I was elected to represent the District of Pensacola in the House Commons for the 7th and last West Florida General Assembly in the fall of 1778. In 1779 I was granted Lot No. 227 in Pensacola, which was on Prince’s Street near George Street (today, Romana near Palafox). After the fall of Pensacola, I went to South Carolina where I married and started a family, and served as an associate justice on what would become the South Carolina Supreme Court. I died in 1838.
