I represent Pedro Tomas. I was a soldier of color who served under Gen. Bernardo de Gálvez. He recommended me for a “distinctive” medal of honor for courageous service at the siege of Pensacola. I went on to serve as a captain of the free morenos, and my two sons, Luis and Felipe Pedro, followed in my footsteps as officers in the free militias.
