I represent Pedro Bailly. I was manumitted by my enslaver, Josef Bailly in 1776 when I was 25 years old. I married Naneta Manuela Carrière, a recently freed parda (woman of mixed race). Within a few years, through hard work and shrewd accumulation of property, Naneta and I were well off. We would go on to have five children (only two of whom survived childhood) and I was able to purchase and manumit my mother. I served in the free pardo militia, advancing to first lieutenant and serving at Baton Rouge, Mobile, and Pensacola under Gen. Bernardo de Gálvez.
