Capt. Hugo O’Connor

I represent Hugo O’Connor. I was a captain in the Hibernian Regiment, one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for two hundred years by the time of the Revolutionary War, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown. I was born in 1735 and joined the regiment as a cadet in 1752. I was wounded and captured by the British on May 4, 1781. Lucky for me the British surrendered less than a week later.
