I represent Eduardo Nugent. I was a captain in the Hibernian Regiment, one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for two hundred years by the time of the Revolutionary War, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown. I was born in 1748 and entered the regiment as a cadet in 1764. I was not a full-fledged captain during the siege of Pensacola, but General Gálvez gave me the rank because of my performance there.
