William Ogilvy

I represent William Ogilvy. I came to West Florida from England in 1776. I was a merchant, and at one time owned a firm with John Falconer (“Ogilvy & Falconer”). In March 1777 I petitioned for a grant of land on the north side of the Amite River, where I identified myself as a Loyalist. For the 1771 “Indian congress” in Pensacola, Falconer and I were paid for “Sundry Provisions … for the use of the Congress and Visiting Indians.” In 1778 John Falconer and I purchased Lot 199 in town from Charles Stewart. My name appears on a listing of inhabitants in Pensacola for February 1780. It appears I ended up in Charleston after the war.
