I represent one of two children enumerated with Mrs. McWire on the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, September 1768, Capt. Maturin’s Company. The 31st was an infantry regiment that joined the garrison at Pensacola in 1765 and stayed – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – until 1772. The name of our father was not given in the Return, but according to the August 1768 muster roll for the 31st, it was Pvt. Laughlin McQuier (at the moment, there is no way to determine which spelling – if either of them – was considered correct).
