I represent Josef Trapani. I was a sub-lieutenant in the Hibernian Regiment, one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for two hundred years by the time of the Revolutionary War, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown. I was born in Italy in 1738. I entered the regiment as an ordinary soldier in 1755 and became a sub-lieutenant in 1781. General Gálvez recommended me for promotion for my perfomance during the siege of Pensacola.
