I represent James Carrol. I was a private in the Maryland Loyalists Regiment that was raised in 1777. I enlisted early, in Captain Grafton Dulany’s company. We saw action at the Battle of Monmouth in 1778 before being sent later that year to West Florida to defend Pensacola and Mobile against the Spanish. We arrived in late December 1778 exhausted and sick. Captain Dulany himself died in late December, and I was transferred to Capt. Isaac Costen‘s company. I died, probably of illness, on October 11, 1779. I probably still lie buried in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
