Mrs. Sidall

I represent Mrs. Sidall. I was among the women enumerated in the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, Capt. Vignoles‘ Company, in Sept 1768. It was the practice of the British Army to allow their soldiers to bring wives and children to overseas assignments, usually because we had no other way to support ourselves than to accompany them. In the Return, my name appears to be spelled “Addall”; however, there are no men named “Addall” on the August 1768 muster roll for the 31st. Several mistakes in the spelling of women’s names in that Return have been discovered; it is assumed, therefore, that my husband was Private Thomas Sidall.  While children were counted in this Return, none were associated with me.
