Mary White

I represent Mary White. I was a resident of British Pensacola, where my husband, John, was a carpenter and merchant. We had two children: Ann and John. Ann was baptized on May 12, 1769, but died on April 8, 1770. She probably still lies buried in an unmarked grave in Pensacola. John was born March 31, 1771 and baptized on April 28, 1771. In August 1773, John petitioned for a grant of land on St. Catherine Creek, near Natchez, which was where all the colonists wanted to go to start profitable plantations. He stated he had a wife, two children, and two apprentices. If we built out there, it must not have been our primary residence as John’s name was on the Spanish list of householders still in Pensacola at the time of the capitulation in May 1781.
