I represent Maria. In the 1820 Spanish Census of Pensacola, I would be listed as Maria Alba, 50 years old, living with my daughter, Andrea. At that time, I was a free woman of color. According to the information I gave in 1820, I was born around 1770 in Pensacola. My enslavement status then is unknown, and it also unknown whether I used the surname “Alba” at that time. If it indicates a connection with the de Alba family, they came to Pensacola after the Spanish captured the town on May 10, 1781.
