I represent Margaret Callahan, a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I was the consort of Daniel Hicky. We had two daughters, Margaret and Frances. Frances was baptized on September 22, 1768. Margaret was baptized April 16, 1770. She died of “teeth,” in April 1771 at about a year old. (In the 18th century, if a child suffered from dehydration, malnutrition, dysentery – or any of the countless ailments infants were prone to in those days – while they were teething, the death was often blamed on the teething rather than the underlying condition.) Margaret lies in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
