I represent Joseph Purcell. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British period. I came to the colony from South Carolina early in 1776. I was a merchant and served as Deputy Surveyor General and Surveyor General of the British province of West Florida. I made a map in 1778 entitled, A Plan of Pensacola and Its Environs In its Present State that shows marshlands having been filled in since previous maps were done and a more detailed and rigidly platted city layout.
